We are installing our production website over the course of the next few weeks, and we appreciate your patience as we get our experience ready for you. This includes much of our video content as well as some verbiage.
Echodify is a public community and a social network through which you can pass on what matters to those who matter most.
Inception
Helping people pass on what matters to those who matter most began in 2006 with the development of Visual Ancestor, a web project that helped people preserve their pre-WWII family photographs. The Submission Archive was designed to also preserve genealogies, family histories, documents, correspondences, and other forms of digital media to be made available to others in the future. In so doing, the Submission Archive of Visual Ancestor became one of the first venues, if not the first, through which people could preserve and pass on legacy content to others.
In 2021, after 14 years of Visual Ancestor accumulating tens-of-thousands of archived family photographs and other digital materials, it was realized that the Submission Archive feature of the site had a general appeal to everybody -- not just those interested in preserving family genealogies and photographs.
Work thus began to extract this feature out of Visual Ancestor and to package it into a stand-alone, general solution to what we see as a common problem: the looming threat of loss of people's virtual (digital) legacies due to common issues like no planning, lack of an already-developed easy solution, passwords nobody else knows, unexpected death, natural disaster, political turmoil or war, or just the common desire many of us have to preserve a part of us -- our virtual legacy -- to live on into the future.
Therefore, in December of 2021, Echodify was born to carry forward the mission of Visual Ancestor's Submission Archive to build a specialized social network through which it becomes easy and routine to pass on what matters to those who matter most.
